The New Mexico State women's basketball team topped Rainbow Wahine of Hawaii for the second time in four days, this time sending the Aggies into the semi-finals of the WAC Tournament.
The No. 3 Aggies dominated majority of the game in their 55-40 victory, with the No. 6 Wahine not leading in the last 37 minutes of the game. The Aggie victory came on the shoulders freshman guard Madison Spence, daughter of NMSU women's basketball coach Darin Spence. Spence dropped 20 points on the Wahine and shot 8 of 15 from the field.
NMSU capitalized on a sluggish Hawaii team that gave the Aggies 20 points off of turnovers and was 48 to 34. Spence attributed Hawaii's underperformance to the fact that both teams traveled from Hawaii at the beginning of the week. But Spence said that Hawaii was still a formidable opponent for the Aggies.
"For us, Hawaii is a tough match-up. Both teams played hard," Spence said following the victory. "It was two defensive teams that battled it out."
The Aggies will either play Boise State or Utah State in the semi-finals on Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m..
